Welcome to the USS Ithaca!

The year is 2385.

Four years have passed since the Borg invasion tore through the Federation and its allies. The Collective is gone, but the damage it left behind is still everywhere: burned worlds, broken fleets, overcrowded relief colonies, and families still waiting for answers that may never come.

Victory is the wrong word for what survived.

The galaxy has grown quieter since then, but not safer. The Typhon Pact has changed the balance of power almost overnight, binding old rivals into something Starfleet can no longer afford to ignore. Borders once treated as settled are being watched again. Diplomacy still matters more than weapons fire, but no one mistakes caution for peace.

Starfleet is trying to find its footing again.

Under President zh’Tarash’s renewed mandate, the Federation has begun turning back toward the work it was built for: exploration, diplomacy, relief, science, and contact with the unknown. Not because the danger has passed, but because fear cannot be allowed to decide what Starfleet becomes.

That is where our story begins.

The USS Ithaca is a Nova-class scout-science vessel assigned to Task Force 74 and operating in the Vesper March, a quiet but uncertain frontier south of Tholian space.

Our mandate is simple: help those in need, keep watch along the Tholian border, and above all else, return to the work Starfleet was built for. To explore strange new worlds. To seek out new civilisations. To boldly go where no one has gone before.

GM Note

Welcome to the USS Ithaca!

I hope you find our little story interesting.

As a small note, we are following the events that occur in the Star Trek novels, sometimes referred to as the 'Litverse'. Some things may be different to what you expect, but we have more information available via the sim and wiki pages.

Feel free to poke around the site.

I look forward to seeing you out there

Howdy adventurer!

Welcome to the USS Ithaca :)

I am still setting things up, mainly focused on the wiki, as it will contain a lot of lore information for the sim. I want to make it as useful as possible, so that's why it is my focus.

In the meantime, feel free to have a poke around the site or come join us on the Discord, we chat a fair bit there and are planning things out.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that the sim isn't dead and is in active development. Some of the changes aren't…

Continued from Part 1

Mercer walked out of his quarters and into the narrow corridor of Deck 1. He headed towards his ready room, which was down the corridor from his quarters. One of the perks of having a smaller ship was that everything was much easier and quicker to get to, Mercer thought to himself as he reached the door to his personal office.

The door sensors detected that Mercer was nearby, and the door automatically slid open, granting him entry to the workspace. Elias's ready room, like most things on the Ithaca, wasn't a grand space, but he…

Emily-Grace Aitken strolled slowly through Wayfarer's operations centre. She had been not-so-subtly lingering around the ship's nerve centre for the better part of an hour, hoping above all else that some kind of news—any news at all—would come through regarding Lieutenant Samantha Vance and Ensign Callum Cowan.

They had departed that morning on what had been intended as a straightforward rescue.

A stranded freighter.

Around sixty civilians.

Collect them.

Bring them home.

That had been four hours ago.

They had been due back in two.

They had yet to appear on the converted freighter's considerably upgraded sensor grid.

Slowly, Emily…

Mission: Flashbacks

The last day and a half had been the kind everybody aboard Wayfarer had been dreading. As the Borg invasion pushed further and further into the Alpha Quadrant, the need for rescue support had grown to an almost impossible level. Every hour brought another distress call. Another evacuation. Another colony running out of time.

The launches had been around the clock.

Every few minutes another shuttle disappeared through Wayfarer's improvised flight deck. Every few minutes another returned carrying frightened civilians, exhausted crews, or patients in desperate need of somewhere safer.

Until they didn't.

The launch lights stayed dark.

The flight…

Mission: Flashbacks

The previous days briefing had been a simple affair throughout which Ensign Callum Cowan had largely sat and quietly listened.

A pair of invading cubes had been detected a sector over. En route was a combat task force to engage and eliminate the threat and so Wayfarer had also been dispatched to assist in any necessary rescue operations. Command were optimistic apparently, that their services would not be required but the groans and eye rolling from the more senior pilots in the room had left Cal lacking command's optimism.

Passing the following twenty-four hours was a surreal experience. Time seemed…

The pip on Ensign Callum Cowan's collar felt unusually heavy. When it had been placed there mere months earlier by a particular favourite professor at the academy it had represented excitement and the millions of possibilities that had, for a moment, lined his road ahead.

But things changed quickly.

Two entire world populations had been eradicated in moments. More would fall in the weeks following and suddenly a whole planned career seemed relatively immaterial.

The Rescue Freighter Wayfarer was not quite what any newly commissioned Starfleet officer would have imagined as a first posting.

Even from the outside she had…
